Amulet Book 1 Review

Updated: Nov 15, 2022

Hello People!

First of all, before I start this blog, I wanted to say sorry for the inconsistency in posting. I have been very busy, trying to catch up with school and all that stuff. But today I am all yours. 😁

Most of you might be familiar with the popular graphic novel series Amulet written by Kazu Kibuishi, with eight books. It is basically about a girl called Emily, who has lost an important person in her life, which is obviously hard. Her family decides its best to move on, so they move into an old family house. Little did they know that this happened for a reason. When they move in there is something eerie about the house. When they get transported to another world, they later they find out more about their great-grandfather who lived in the house. Emily then finds out that she has inherited a stone that can speak to her through the Voice*. She is the strongest out of the many Stonekeepers and she must fight fearlessly to prove this. With this stone she can do many magical things, but she must not let the stone take control of her mind. With these powers she has, she must use the council given to her to save many different worlds that are hidden from humans from the secrets of 'The Voice'. There are a lot of plot twists throughout this series, which can make you very interested.

*No, not the popular Music Talent Show sadly. 😥

The first book 'The Stonekeeper' gives the reader a good understanding of what the storyline of the series. You cannot read any other book before you read the first book, otherwise, the whole story will not make sense.

In this book, Kibuishi gives the audience an introduction to the whole series, which is necessary. What he also does is gives a small prolugue to help the reader understand better. There is a lot to take in, which can confuse the reader but if you are a very good reader, it can be easier to comprehend. I think that Kibuishi used emotive moments in the story to really pull the audience in. The graphics in the book also help the reader to understand the storyline. Overall, I would give this book a 4.5 out of 5.

That is the close of the review of the first Amulet book. I would definately recommend this book for older children in the ages 9-13.
