A man was walking through the familiar streets of his hometown to get his daily coffee. The scent of the invigorating roses brought life to this small town. The cafe was only one block away, so the man decided to sit down on a bench. All around were familiar faces, children playing at the fountain, people walking their dogs. Happy couples. The man's eye flinched, then he looked at his watch.
Many people waved at the man but as usual he coldly glanced at them. It's sad how he was not always like this. The townsfolk often remarked.
As the door of the cafe opened, the man looked over at his normal seat. There was a lady sitting in his place. She was smiling at him. But in seconds she vanished. The man noticed she was drinking Waitrose roasted rich coffee. Immediately the man saw flashbacks and just stood still.
"John? John, promise me you will never lose hope?" Marla asked her fiancée, "Of course my dear! Why?" John replied with curiosity. "Because, dear, many things could happen, and you could lose the people you love the most." Those words tugged at Johns heart.

"Do you Marla Jones take John Moore as your husband?" The priest asked Marla. John stared into Marla's ice blue eyes as she smiled shyly. "I do!" John always remembered that smile.
~
"Marla, what would you like to order?" John asked his wife." Waitrose roasted rich coffee. It's my favorite."

"Marla, wake up please!" John wailed to his dyeing wife. "Please live to see our baby! Our baby needs you; I need you!" Marla opened her eyes and tears rushed out. "John, always remember I love you, and always hold onto hope." Marla kissed her husband for the last time before her last breath.
John was devastated. At home one night the baby was crying so loud that John had finally had enough. The baby was just another reminder of her. He wanted nothing to do with the baby. The next day he gave the baby to his sister who lived in another town, to take care of as her own child. He warned her to never speak of him to his daughter. Then he left.

"Mr. Moore? Mr. Moore? Are you alright? Take a seat." Sarah, a waitress at the cafe, asked. The man brushed her off and sat down in his usual spot. In minutes Sarah came over with an espresso coffee, the man's usual order. "If you need anything you know where I am." Sarah said kindly and then headed off to attend to other customers.
The man had sat in the cafe and watched as people entered and as people left. Then an unfamiliar girl walked into the cafe. She walked over to Sarah who then pointed at the man. The girl walked towards him. As the man inspected her, he noticed she had ice blue eyes. Could it be - no it couldn't be.
"Hello, I'm Charlotte, you must be Mr. Moore." The girl put out her hand but was left hanging. "I don't have any money. "The man quickly said. Charlotte looked stunned but she kept her composure. "I don't know how to say this, but I'm not here for money of course," she hesitated, "I'm here for my...father." Those words pierced through John's heart. Tears filled his eyes.
"Why did you leave me?" Charlotte asked. John opened his mouth, but no words came out. He breathed in and decided to let it out.
"When I was younger, I was so madly in love with Marla, your mother. I never wanted her to leave me. When I got married to her, I had never felt so happy in my life. Everything was fine until she became pregnant. She started to have serious health malfunctions. But somehow, she always kept hope. On her death bed she told me to always hold onto hope. But I was too heartbroken to listen. For some reason I blamed you for her sicknesses. You were just another reminder of her. I knew I couldn't take care of you. But now there is not a day I don't think of you and regret my choices. This changed my lifestyle; I started pushing everyone out of my life and being coldhearted to everyone. I'm sorry, I never called or checked on you, I just left you. I just wish I was a better-" Charlotte cut him off "It's okay. You did what you thought was best." Charlotte smiled and John could immediately see Marla's shy smile in his daughter. John regretted the years he spent without his daughter even the more.
"Mother- I mean Aunt Pauline sent me here, she decided I was old enough to know who I really was. She said that if it was okay with you, I should stay here for a while. Is that okay?" Her father nodded and then he hugged her.
John was overwhelmed with the events of that morning, but he knew it was Marla, giving him a little nudge, to hold onto hope.
Always remember to hold onto hope and cherish the time you share with loved ones, because anything can happen at anytime
